Materials:
Career book, crayons, and blank T-Shirt coloring sheets
Activity:
1. Hand out career books to each student and have them fill in their name.
2. Read over all of the careers in the book.
3. After you’ve read through them all, have the children pick a career that they’re interested in and give them a coloring sheet. Tell them to design a T-shirt based on the career that they chose.
4. After everyone is done coloring, go around the room and have the children talk about their T-shirt and why they designed it the way that they did.
Processing:
1. Ask: “Was it hard for you to choose just one career? Were you stuck between two? How did you pick your final career?”
2. Ask: “Is this the job you want when you grow up or is it just the one you liked in the book?”
3. Discuss the things that you can do to start thinking about what job you want when you get older.
4. Discuss why it is important to start thinking about different jobs now.
